Handoff Checklist for Editors and Mixers
Send the files the receiving editor will open, plus the note that says how they were made.
For recording engineers supplying mixes and LTC, use the recording-session handoff brief.
Include:
- Source audio or accessible media paths.
- Exported FCPXML timeline.
- CSV report and build report.
- Project frame rate.
- Drop-frame or non-drop-frame setting.
- Timeline start time.
- Notes about missing, unreadable, or manually adjusted files.
- Contact details for questions.
A missing CSV report means nobody can see the start timecode without opening each WAV. A wrong drop-frame setting looks fine at 01:00:00:00 and is several frames out an hour later. Say DF or NDF in the note, and include the CSV report from Timecode Stamping or LTC Cut Splitter, or the build report from Timeline Builder.
If the editor or mixer uses a different system, confirm the preferred format before export. A small check before delivery can save a lot of relinking and timeline repair later.
