Metadata: BWF, bext, and iXML

Broadcast WAV files can include metadata that describes the recording. This may include scene, take, track names, timecode start, recorder information, notes, and other production details.

The bext chunk is part of the Broadcast WAV standard and can store useful timestamp and description data. iXML is another metadata format often used by field recorders to store richer production information.

LTC Magic may use this metadata alongside decoded LTC where available. Metadata can help identify takes, group tracks, label outputs, and cross-check timing.

However, metadata is only useful when it is accurate. If the recorder was set incorrectly or metadata was changed after recording, LTC may be a more reliable timing source.
